Girls on the Run is a 501(c)3 nonprofit organization dedicated to creating a world where every girl knows and activates her limitless potential and is free to boldly pursue her dreams.

OUR PROGRAMS

GOTR of North Central West Virginia began as GOTR of Monongalia County, serving Brookhaven Elementary School. Our first team of 18 girls met in the Fall of 2007. In 2014, our council expanded its territory to include Harrison, Marion, Preston, and Wetzel counties. Originally an affiliate council of Monongalia General Hospital, GOTR of North Central WV became an independent council in 2015. We celebrated our 10th anniversary year in 2017, welcoming the addition of Barbour and Taylor Counties. Over 700 girls were served during our Spring 2017 season.

Girls on the Run International was established in 1996 in Charlotte, North Carolina by Molly Barker. What started with thirteen girls in one school has grown to over 200 councils in all 50 states and the District of Columbia. With the help of almost 100,000 volunteers, Girls on the Run served nearly 180,000 girls in 2015, including our millionth girl! Girls on the Run continues to grow and currently hosts more than 350 end-of-season 5K events across the United States, making the Girls on the Run 5K series the largest in the country. Girls on the Run has also expanded to include middle school girls through Heart & Sole, a program dedicated to the unique needs of adolescent girls.

Executive Director

“When I stumbled upon the Girls on the Run website in 2003, its mission and core values immediately resonated with me. I love that the program's impact reaches beyond our participants, extending to our girls' families, our volunteers, and the greater community in which we serve.”

Joanna Mizener

Program Director

“Girls on the Run is a dream job for this fitness buff who loves GIRL time! I am so grateful for the opportunity to grow my personal and professional skills while investing in the lives of others! My favorite part about GOTR is that we aren't about telling girls what they should do, we just want them to know they CAN! Live joyfully, be strong, and pursue BIG dreams!”

Christine Wallace

5K Director

“I love to encourage people to reach their potential. As a triathlete, I recognize that talent can only take you so far, but that hard work and determination can take you to the next level. As a strong supporter of Girls on the Run, I love to see the passion, hard work, and determination that the girls of this program put forth throughout each season and at the 5k grand finale.”

We're always considering passionate individuals to join our team and help us inspire more girls in the North Central West Virginia area.
